Some of the items on display include clothing, office equipment, antiques, household items, as well as books. There are also documents and photographs that tell the story of the region in vivid detail.
A casual walk through the museum will always fascinate visitors because the ‘Underwear Through the Ages’ collection shows some underwear worn in the 19th century and the following periods.
Look out for the ‘Clean and Decent’ collection, which shows a complete set of washstand china and quirky information about bath time in those days. A photography collection also takes you back to an era before digital photography. This collection also has a brief history of photography in the 19th century.
Other exhibitions worth checking out include Xylonite (a material once used before the advancement of plastic), hats, toys, war memorabilia, and local industry items. The beauty of this is that the displays are changed regularly, so there is always something new to see and enjoy.
Entry to the City of Canada Bay Museum is free for all. Donations are welcome.
