HMAS Advance is one of Sydney’s main attractions and a significant part of the Australian National Maritime Museum collection. The Advance was a patrol boat used by the Royal Australian Navy.
Built in 1967 and used since 1968, the vessel has been used to patrol the northern waters in Australia.

Since it was donated to the museum, it has continued attracting history buffs and maritime enthusiasts to marvel at its magnificent structure. The vessel is on permanent exhibition and open to the public.
Explore the HMAS Advance by taking on the adventure in the Action Stations. This exhilarating experience is an unforgettable way to immerse yourself in one of the most iconic attractions at the museum. This adventure allows visitors to experience the drama of Navy Life aboard the warship.
The immersive cinema gives visitors a chance to experience firsthand the thrill of being aboard Advance during simulated operations. This is accompanied by the soundtrack on the big screen for an experience that puts you in the centre of the action.
After your viewing, head out to the discovery and exploration space, also located at the museum. Maritime science and history combine to bring you a fun and educational experience. Visitors also have the opportunity to walk on board the HMAS Advance and other ex-Navy vessels on location.
The museum is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm, with the last boarding at 4:10pm. Tickets are available online and onsite. Visitors are informed that adults must accompany kids, and they must be physically prepared. Part of the onboard experience involves climbing and crouching, which may not be suitable for people with limited mobility.
To visit the HMAS Advance, visit the museum within walking distance of the CBD on Murray Street at Darling Harbour.
