Lisgar Gardens is a nature lover’s dream come true—a spectacular six-acre site and one of Sydney’s top attractions. The gardens’ history dates back to 1917, and they mark an important location in the city.
The site on which the gardens are located was first bought in 1917 to develop lush gardens close to the city. Fifty years later, the council purchased the gardens and gave them their present name.

Nature enthusiasts will be excited to learn about the different plants, including azaleas, gardenias and rhododendrons, alongside ferns and trees native to Australia. Look out for the more than ninety unique varieties of camellias. Some original camellias remain in the garden more than five decades later.
If you visit with kids, spend some time at the picnic tables, as there is no better way to enjoy the outdoors at Lisgar Gardens. Remember to clean up after you leave to ensure the gardens are well-maintained for other visitors.
The beauty of the gardens is that they are a perfect venue for a wide array of events. Whether you are looking for a wedding venue, need a setting for a photoshoot, or want a quiet place to retreat, the gardens are an idyllic option.
Visitors travelling to the gardens by car will find parking around William Street or adjacent streets. This is because there is limited parking on the road to the gardens.
Lisgar Gardens is open weekdays from 8am to 3:30pm and on weekends between 10am and 4pm. Best of all, entry is free!
