Sydney Conservatorium of Music

Sydney Conservatorium of Music is among the oldest music schools in the country and undoubtedly one of the most prestigious.

The school was previously known as the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music or simply ‘The Con’. As a faculty member of the University of Sydney, the school plays an integral role in Australia’s music scene.

The Conservatorium’s oldest building was the brainchild of Francis Greenway. His works featured a majestic Gothic style, a testament to the era’s architectural trends. In the following years, the school became home to the country’s first orchestra operating full-time. Its members were drawn from the students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and other experienced musicians in the field.

The school’s developments include adding new halls, key library facilities, modern soundproof studios, and offices. All these changes have made the school a premium institute and an exciting and innovative space for music lovers and students worldwide.

One of the most exciting things about visiting the Sydney Conservatorium of Music is its year-long program, which encompasses concerts, lectures, and masterclasses by some of the best in the field. If you are a music lover, then this is an ideal place to visit.

Entry into many events is free, and families can visit with their children. Moreover, there are school holiday workshops for the little ones to enjoy. Adults may also enrol for the short music courses held regularly at The Con.

Visit the Music Cafe and enjoy a range of snacks and beverages. Look out for the pies—among the best in the city! Make your way to the bistro located on the second level (right below the Box Office) and to the cafe on the third level (close to the main front door). The cafe is open daily, on weekdays between 8am and 4:30pm, on Saturdays between 8am and 3:30pm, and on Sundays before concerts.
