The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is an annual international film competition showcasing documentaries and short films about mountain culture, the environment, and sports.
The event was launched in 1976 by the Banff Centre and is held in Banff, Canada. Recently, the organisers have developed an Australian counterpart for the event known as the Radical Reels Tour, which travels throughout Australia to screen new films in 31 city locations, including Sydney.

Approximately 375 films are entered into the film festival annually, and the top 80 films are selected by a pre-screening committee to be shown at the week-long festival in Canada. During the festival, the international film festival jury chooses the best films. It presents awards in various categories, including Best Film on Mountain Sport, Best Film on Mountain Environment, Best Film on Mountain Culture, Best Film on Exploration and Adventure and more.
From this selection, a program of over two hours of thought-provoking films, with subject matter ranging from remote landscapes and cultures to adrenaline-packed action sports, is selected to tour Australia each April, May, and June. In Australia, the same two-plus hours of films are shown at each screening.
The screenings are held at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne each year, so be sure to check out the schedule for showtimes. Seating is not allocated. Come early for the best seats.

Getting here – Public Transport
If coming from the CBD
Alight your bus or train at Wynyard and make your way to Stand A. You can catch any bus to the Orpheum from here by requesting a stop at Cremorne Junction. If unsure of where this is, either ask the bus driver or keep an eye out for the large McDonalds on your left. We’re the stop after that!
Or fancy a ride across the harbour before your film? You can also catch the ferry to Cremorne Point and catch the 225 up to the intersection of Military Road and Spofforth Street.
If coming from the Western Suburbs
If you go to Chatswood or St Leonards Train Stations, you can catch the 144 or the 143 to Cremorne Junction. During peak hours, the 140 also runs from Epping to Manly, stopping at Cremorne Junction along the way.
From the Northern Beaches
Almost any bus to the city will take you to Cremorne Junction (notable exceptions being the L90 and L88). Just ask your bus driver if in doubt. You can also take the 144 / 143 from Manly.
Driving in & Parking
Leaving the CBD, follow the signs to Mosman. This will take you to Military Road. Refer to the above map after making your way to Military Road. Patrons coming from other directions will find Spit Road, and Pacific Hwy will lead you to Military Road.
There is a car park behind the Orpheum on Parraween Street and Cremorne Town Centre, opposite the Orpheum on Military Road.
Disabled Parking is available in the former. It is recommended that such patrons contact the Orpheum before their visit.
Be sure to arrive early to get a parking spot!
