Martin Place Christmas Tree & Fairy Lights

Martin Place Christmas Tree & Fairy Lights

The tallest Christmas tree in NSW is decorated with more than 110,000 LED lights, a 3.4-metre colour-changing star and 330 specially created glossy baubles.

It takes place at Martin Place, located in the heart of Sydney’s central business district, in late November and runs through to after New Year’s Day on January 3.

The tree’s 800 branches are dressed with 15,000 flowers representing nine different kinds of Australian flowers: banksia, waratah, bottlebrush, wattle, eucalyptus gum flower, kangaroo paw, flannel flower, pink wax flower and white wax flower.

Enjoy the Choirs in the City program every night in December at the tree. Wander through Martin Place and soak in the magic of Sydney Christmas. Be entertained by a kaleidoscope of colours, decorative lights and stars every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight.

Drop by the Pitt Street Mall Canopy of Light in the city. Stroll along George Street and look at the stars on top of each light pole. The Woolworths building across from Sydney Town Hall is also draped in a curtain of light.

The City of Sydney proudly supports the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation this festive season. Donate to support hospital wards, research labs and patient care programs for sick kids.

Santa in the City

Get ready because Santa Claus is preparing for his much-anticipated return to Sydney, loading up his sleigh and getting the reindeer ready for the long journey back to the city. After spreading so much joy last year, the City of Sydney is thrilled to welcome him again, where he’ll take up residence beside the iconic Christmas tree in Martin Place.

The elves have already landed in Sydney, working around the clock making exciting updates to Santa’s house before his arrival. Santa will remain in Martin Place until he departs on his world tour on Christmas Eve. He has extended an open invitation to all, including your pets, to join him for a magical photo session.

Martin Place will transform into Sydney’s ultimate Christmas destination, featuring the iconic Christmas tree, lively markets, choirs, roaming entertainment, and the return of Santa’s House – where you will immerse yourself in the festive spirit and capture unforgettable memories with Santa Claus.

Nobody loves Christmas more than kids – but unfortunately, for some, this time of year isn’t what it should be. When booking your photo session with Santa at Martin Place, you will contribute to new equipment, training and education, groundbreaking research, or state-of-the-art facilities to help change the future for sick kids.

$5 from each booking is donated directly to Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation.

Santa photo and pet sessions available. Book now to avoid disappointment.
