Sydney information is provided to ensure that visitors touring the city have a seamless experience getting around and exploring the city.

This relevant information answers popular questions, especially by first-time visitors – including what activities to do, where to stay, where to dine and the different transport options.

Sydney Information – Tourist Guides, Visitor Transport Info & Helpful Facts

First things first – Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and is the country’s largest city. It is renowned for its excellent harbours, the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Darling Harbour, among a wealth of other attractions. The Opera House, with its unique shell roof, is without a doubt, one of the most recognisable structures in Sydney.

Other attractions that you must check out while in Sydney include the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Skywalk, The Rocks, Bondi Beach, as well as Circular Quay. Once you have identified the attractions that you would like to visit, the next step involves looking at your transport options and understanding the time zones. Sydney is located within the AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) zone.

For international visitors, Sydney Airport is the city’s and the country’s busiest airport. It is known as Kingsford Smith Airport, and it is located just about eight kilometres from the city, with three key passenger terminals to cater to both international and domestic flights. It is linked to the CBD by the Airport Link; an underground rail line that provides easy connection to the city centre.

On arrival, visitors can choose from any of the public forms of transport available. From train rides to buses and ferries, there are convenient ways of getting around Sydney. Taxis also complement this reliable transport system. For those who would like to explore at their pace, there are pedestrian pathways and bike paths to get around. With the latter, there is also the option of hiring a bike for stress-free connections.

Additionally, most shopping centres and department stores are open all week, with late night shopping on Thursday evenings. Most banks and post offices are only open on weekdays, with a few exceptions. An increasing entertainment scene has seen Sydney become a preferred dining and party destination. Note that tipping is not mandatory in Australia.
